Everton FC: You're Banned

Sources at the Liverpool Daily Post & Echo (LDP&E)  have confirmed that a press blackout, enforced more than three weeks ago, remains firmly in place.

The banning of the regional newspapers, with hard-copy readership in the region of 100,000 and a combined online daily unique user figure of over 62,000, was imposed by Everton Football Club in the aftermath of a week-long series published by the LDP&E entitled: Everton FC in focus: Just what does the future hold for the Blues?

The series of articles, which the club declined to participate in, focussed on the clubs finances, comment on the ongoing stadium issue, the 'search' for new owners and the fans view through a supporters poll.

Since then, the local journalists who have been denied access to players and staff as well as press-conferences, have had to make do with reporting second-hand news and mend by writing filler comment-pieces.

The current chairman and board of directors seem to have caught the banning bug; AGMs, EGMs, local journalists, all fair game for the current regime.

The message from The Bunker is clear then; do not dare to criticize, analyze, question nor examine, refrain from inquiry, scrutiny and inspection or we will ban your arse brother.

In related news, the clubs official site has proudly announced they will be holding an exclusive Fans’ Conference in April.

Apparently, if you have already purchased your 2011/12 Season Ticket you could be one of the lucky 200 hand picked supporters who will be given the chance to pose questions to Chief Executive Officer Robert Elstone and a specially selected panel and 'talk about Club matters close to your heart' (local journalists and curious Evertonians need not apply).

I'm preparing my question as we speak:

"Hi Robert, firstly can I say thank you for allowing us plebs to take up some of your precious time, we are not worthy.....and erm, could you tell us all whether Mikel uses gel, wax or mousse on his gorgeous Spanish barnet?"

Marvellous!

  1. Everton Football Club under the ownership of Bill Kenwright and the Managership of David Moyes has become a laughing stock all over the country. I no longer countenance any utterances from either of these two individuals or the repetative nonesense from the players. As for the Communications Department, well there's another joke with their appalling attitude to fans and ordinary folk. Graeme Sharp is no more than a club mouthpiece.

This club, that I have followed for 50 years appears to be at the end of its road. It is a shambles. The owner seems intent on maximising his profit. The manager is a reasonable championship manager. No one has any dignity left. No one has any regard for the paying public. These wealthy mercenaries would be better served leaving the club to find its own way back from the mess, whether that be in a lower division or whatever. They do not deserve the fans that have followed this club as long if not longer than me.

I have only been to one live match since Moyes took over. I will not spend my money on such rubbish. I do watch out for the club though. Sadly, I think it's all over ... it's turning into an ex-girlfriend as we speak.

  2. It just about sums up the arrogance of Kenwright and his cronies. They are the worst board any club could have yet think they are above criticism or questioning because they are so deluded they think they are doing a good job.

The Echo has pussyfooted around the club for too long. I now hope they are on the side of us fans totally, utterly and completley SICK of Kenwright and his disasterous regime.

How dare the Echo post a relatively balanced, investigative series of articles that weren’t completely one sided in favour of the magnificent board!

Kim Jong Kenwright needs to understand that he’s outstayed his welcome, the good grace he received from helping oust Johnson had an expiry date, which is long over due.

If he can’t take us forward then he’s holding us back and so banning the Echo is just another strike of the chisel that is carving the epitaph on the Goodison Board’s tomb stone.

It probably would be a good time to get the truth out in the local press about Kirkby, better late than never?

  5. Robin I hope you never go back to goodison again , how on gods earth is moyes a championship manager you fool , gone are the days when the difference between the top team and bottom team are separated by a couple of million , if a 38 year old Howard Kendall was manager we'd be no better off , all the best teams in the premier league Man Utd , Chelsea , City , red Shite , Spurs , Arsenal are the teams who have spent by far the most money on players over the past 10 seasons , it wouldn't matter if Everton had Martin Lutha King in charge fella if you don't have the finance to compete your going to struggle yet finishing 4th , 5th ( twice) 6 th , and 8 th and reaching the fa cup final is a mega achievement any other manager would have been sacked by now , but iam probably waisting my time explaining this to someone who thinks so badly of Moyes , as for Kenwright he Is just an illness in our club the longer he is there the weaker our once great club will become
